When you’re chronically bored at work, it’s usually a sign of something deeper going on. You may not be being challenged enough, or you just don’t find the work interesting enough to hold your attention. In any case, don’t just waste your time being bored. You need to take action.
Figure Out The Underlying Cause
Spend some time figuring out why you’re feeling bored all the time. Is it the actual work? Do you find it unappealing to talk to disgruntled customers all day long, or to have to slog through endless spreadsheets looking for problems? Or maybe you enjoy the work but there isn’t enough of it. Do you work faster than your supervisor can give you projects?
Decide What to Do About it
Next, depending on the underlying reason for your chronic boredom, decide what you want to do about it. If you hate the actual work, you should probably consider a whole new job or at least a transfer to a different department. If the problem is a lack of tasks, you should probably speak to your boss about increasing your workload (for more pay, of course!).
How to Get Out of a Boring Job
If you decide that it’s bigger than that and you just need a change of job, that’s easy. Now all you need to do is dust off your resume and start browsing online for job openings. Don’t quit your current job before you have a new one in place. You don’t want to risk not being able to pay your bills. Start interviewing after work, on your lunch hour and on weekends.
